The Huntsville City Council met on Thursday, September 24, 2026. Several key decisions were made that impact local land use, commercial development, and long-term municipal planning across North Alabama.

Zoning & Land Development Highlights
Commercial Zoning on Old Monrovia Road: Following a public hearing, Council evaluated Ordinance No. 26-677 to zone 2.62 acres of land located on the north side of Old Monrovia Road (east of Wayne Road) to Highway Business C-4 District.
The Cove at Green Mountain Restriction Amendment: Council reviewed Ordinance No. 26-679 amending a plat restriction on “The Cove at Green Mountain” (recorded in Plat Book 2024, Pages 100-101 of Madison County Probate Records) regarding front and rear yard setback requirements.
Right-of-Way Vacation Scheduled: A public hearing was set for November 5, 2026, to consider vacating a right-of-way between Lots 1 and 2 on Arrowhead Drive.

Strategic Annexation & Economic Expansion
Major Annexation (Huntsville Brownsferry Rd): Council addressed Ordinance No. 26-838 to annex 236.58 acres of land lying south of Huntsville Brownsferry Road and west of Greenbrier Parkway. This major expansion supports ongoing residential and commercial growth trajectory in Western Madison and Limestone counties.
Redwire Expansion Incentives: Approved Resolution No. 26-880 authorizing a Project Development Agreement with Redwire Defense Tech Huntsville, LLC, providing economic incentives to support the company’s facility expansion.
Municipal Budget & Fiscal Planning
FY2027 Annual Budget Adoption: Council acted on Ordinance No. 26-830, adopting the City of Huntsville annual budget for fiscal year 2027 beginning October 1, 2026.
Capital Improvement Plans: Passed Resolutions No. 26-859 and 26-860 approving the updated 1990 and 2014 Capital Improvement Plans for Fiscal Years 2027–2036. These plans outline infrastructure investments vital to maintaining strong property values across the metro area.
TVA Rate Change: Approved Resolution No. 26-853 authorizing the Mayor to execute a TVA Rate Change Amendment effective October 1, 2026.

North Huntsville Greenway Project: Council approved Resolution No. 26-877 authorizing an application to the National Park Service for a Land and Water Conservation Fund Outdoor Legacy Partnership Grant.
