Advocacy Resources

If real estate is your profession, then politics is your business!

For decades, REALTORS® have successfully advocated to protect private property rights and the benefits of homeownership in Alabama and across the nation. Our political advocacy efforts have allowed members to serve as the voice of real estate at the state Capitol and in Congress on issues critical to the business of our members.

Now, HAAR is stepping up our advocacy efforts at a local level in a way we never have before.

As one of the largest trade associations in North Alabama, HAAR’s greatest political strength is our active and engaged grassroots network. When there is an issue that the collective voice of REALTORS® support or oppose, the Governmental Affairs Department enlists the engagement of our members to reinforce the sentiment to their legislators in Madison County. The information located in this section is considered grassroots resources and we encourage members to take full advantage of the programs promoted.

Voter information

The most direct way to uphold the interest of the real estate industry is to elect candidates into office that understand the importance of preserving home ownership and the value of private property rights. Voting is the first step REALTORS® must take to be involved in the policy making process but in order to do so, REALTORS® must be registered.

Broker Involvement Program

The Broker Involvement Program (BIP) is open to broker-owners or managing brokers and functions as an extension of HAAR’s grassroots network. It provides the broker with a quick and effective tool to rally agents by delivering a clear and united message to congressional leaders on important issues that affect the real estate industry. For questions concerning the BIP, contact Sean Magers at sean@valleymls.com.

How the BIP Works:

Any time a Call-for-Action (CFA) is released, NAR will alert the broker via email. The CFA is then automatically delivered to the broker’s agents using the broker’s name and logo in the message. There is no added responsibility required on the broker’s part, other than initial enrollment in the program. Nothing needs to be downloaded and there is no cost to the broker.

Why is Participation in the BIP Important?

Involvement is important because online participation reports demonstrate that response rates on broker Calls-for-Action are significantly higher, guaranteeing proven results. Last year, nearly half of all CFA responses were from agents in the BIP. Simply put, agents are more inclined to participate in a CFA when the message is received from their broker.

Enroll in the Broker Involvement Program:

Joining the BIP is fast and easy. Simply click here to complete and submit the required webform. The broker will then receive a confirmation email from NAR staff containing follow-up instructions.

REALTOR® Party Mobile Alerts

Want to be the first to know when a Call-for-Action arises? Then sign up for NAR’s REALTOR® Party Mobile Alerts by texting “REALTORS” to 30644.  On average, Mobile Text Alerts have a 98 percent open rate and 40 percent of users “take action”.

NAR has challenged Alabama REALTORS® to enroll 3,667 members in the RPMA program by December 31, 2020. As of June 1, 2020, our state association has achieved 91% of that goal! That means we need 320 more signups.

REALTORS® can sign up for REALTOR® Party Mobile Alerts by texting the word “REALTORS” to 30644 or by clicking below.

Local Political Coordinator Program
