The Broker Summit Recap

A packed crowd convened for the 2019 Broker Summit at HAAR offices on Thursday, August 22. Approved for 4 CE Credit Hours, area brokers heard and participated in wide-ranging presentations from local experts, state leaders, and nationally recognized voices from the real estate industry.

Today’s agents tend to work from their home or their car more than their offices. What toll has that taken on our companies?  After a welcome from ValleyMLS.com President Zelda Lanza, real estate coach Jackie Leavenworth kicked off the summit with her keynote, Running a Successful Business in a ‘Work at Home’ World.

After Jackie’s lively presentation, NAR Director of MLS Engagement Rene Galicia delivered a comprehensive overview of copyright law, tailored to the brokerage community.

If you have a property management company, you’ve probably had some issues arise that you needed help with. Denise Evans of Butler-Evans Education walked the crowd through best practices in the property management business.

After a quick lunch, ValleyMLS.com President Zelda Lanza and CEO Josh McFall took the stage to provide updates from your MLS.

Broker Summit sponsors played a significant role in the support and run-of-show of the event. Goodall Homes, MortgageRight, Dotloop, Choice Home Warranty, FirstBank, Supra, ShowingTime, and Valley Title & Closing all provided critical updates from their areas of expertise within the real estate industry throughout the day between main sessions.

Successful brokers, agents and companies are always aware of what can sometimes feel like an ever-changing real estate legal landscape. A legal panel featuring Alabama Realtors CEO Jeremy Walker, ValleyMLS.com counsel Andrea Gullion, and HAAR counsel Rob Rawlinson provided updates on the most pressing legal issues in our industry.

After an Afternoon Break for Brokers to catch up on phone calls and emails, CEO of PROJECTXYZ and 2019 Board Chair of the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce joined HAAR President Cindi Peters-Tanner to discuss economic, industry and job growth in the Tennessee Valley.

Investing in our industry’s future is critical to all of our long-term success.  The Realtors Political Action Committee (RPAC) is the only organization built to fight for the interests of Realtors and their clients in Congress, state capitals and city halls across the nation.  Past-President Valerie Miles moderated a panel during the afternoon session that discussed how the Alabama Realtors Political Action Committee (ARPAC) fights for Realtors and the importance of investment into the industry.

A panel of seasoned appraisers joined moderator and ValleyMLS.com Treasurer Isaac Winkles to discuss the latest information related to the property valuation process.

Wrapping up the day, Jackie Leavenworth returned for another energetic and motivating presentation, urging brokers to AIM for Greatness, outlining 3 keys to a successful life and business.

ValleyMLS.com thanks our Broker Summit workgroup for months of planning, attendees for making this event special, and our sponsors for making Thursday possible.
