Terri C. May Confirmed as Alabama Real Estate Commissioner

Sawyerville, Alabama, June 10, 2020—The Alabama Real Estate Commission is proud to welcome Terri C. May as its newest real estate commissioner. Created by the Alabama Legislature in 1927, the State of Alabama Real Estate Commission has the statutory authority and duty to regulate the real estate industry in Alabama. Commissioner May is serving as the Consumer-At-Large member and her term continues through September 30, 2021.

Commissioner May is a graduate of the University of Alabama. She is the owner of Blackbelt Financial Services of Alabama, where she provides a full array of skills to meet the loan administration and regulatory compliance needs of community banks. She has a 34-year career in banking that includes work with Regions Financial Corporation and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). She is an associate member of the Alabama Banker’s Association.

Commissioner May’s desire to serve crosses over from her professional life. She says that her “focus is on how to serve consumers at all levels and she wants to be of service to people and assist them with meeting their challenges and goals.”

An avid volunteer, Commissioner May has been actively involved in serving her community through numerous agencies and associations including Hospice of West Alabama, the Tombigbee Girl Scout Council, the Rotary Club of Tuscaloosa, the Junior League of Tuscaloosa, the Arts and Humanities Council of West Alabama, the Alabama Young Bankers school program, and the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama.

She completed the Alabama Master Gardner Program in May 2019 and is volunteering as a Master Gardner with a charity garden in her community.

Commissioner May holds her family and friends close and is continuously planning ways to create lasting experiences with them. She has been married to her husband Stephen for 26 years and they have three children, four grandchildren, and three dogs.

The Commission is comprised of nine members appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Alabama Senate. Commissioner May joins Alabama Commissioners J. Reid Cummings, First Congressional District; Danny Sharp, Chair, Second Congressional District; Carole J. Harrison, Vice Chair, Third Congressional District; Susan T. Smith, Fourth Congressional District; Emmette Barran, Fifth Congressional District; Bill Watts, Sixth Congressional District; Melody O. Davis, Seventh Congressional District; and Joyce Shivers Harris, Industry Member-at-Large.
