SCAM Alert: You’re not going to jail

Be cautious of callers claiming you’ve missed a federal court date and face misdemeanor charges or potential jail time. This is a common scam tactic. The callers may use intimidation tactics, such as threatening arrest or providing false credentials and information about you to make the scam seem credible.
  • Government agencies will NOT demand immediate payment over the phone for fines or fees.
  • They will NOT threaten arrest or legal action if you refuse to pay immediately.
  • Do NOT provide any personal or financial information to unverified callers.
If you receive such a call, hang up and report it to the proper authorities. Do not fall victim to these fraudulent scare tactics. Protect yourself and stay vigilant against phone scams. Share this warning with friends and family to raise awareness.
