Every other week, we’re highlighting, and saying thank you to, members of HAAR leadership and the work they do every day on behalf of our members and their clients. This week, we’re spotlighting ValleyMLS.com 2019 President Zelda Lanza.
Zelda was born in Athens, Alabama, raised in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and returned to North Alabama in 1977. She is a mother to two daughters, Jessica and Chelsey, and recently became engaged to her fiancé, Joshua. Prior to her career as a Realtor, Zelda worked for a national brand insurance company. When that company centralized its office out of the region, she decided to remain in Alabama and became a Realtor in 2002. In August 2017, Zelda began her work as Broker at Crye-Leike Huntsville and has been involved in various leadership roles, beginning with the Women’s Council of Realtors in 2009.
Q: What inspired you to get into this business?
Lanza: I married a Realtor who worked in real estate for years. I learned a great deal about the industry, loved real estate and became very excited about getting my license and to begin working on a team. The way this very-involved business works truly inspired me to get into the business.
Q: What’s the most important piece of advice you would give about your business?Â
Lanza: Know the business and never stop learning! Read articles every day, never stop reading books by authors who know our industry the best, and take advantage of the non-stop educational opportunities HAAR offers every month. Network with Realtors who have been in the business longer than you have – they are critical for your growth and they always have a plan!
Q: What do you think is the biggest challenge facing a new agent today?
Lanza: The fast-paced market is challenging for experienced Realtors. DOM and low inventory can be frustrating for new Realtors who are just beginning to learn the business. That’s why it’s important to have a mentor!
Q: Is there any other advice you want to share with our newest HAAR members?
Lanza: There is so much to learn in this job, and we never live the same day twice. My career has been an incredible journey because of the opportunities I took to become involved in leadership. The industry knowledge and longtime friendships that I have gained over the years – personally and professionally have been amazing. Market trends are fast-paced and can often be challenging, but it’s important to view those challenges as potentially rewarding when you work through them.
