Apply for 2025 Officer or Director positions

The time for our annual election of Officers & Directors is right around the corner. In the meantime, we would like to provide you with helpful information regarding the process and timeline for this year’s election.

First, we’d like to update you on some changes that the HAAR Board of Directors made to HAAR Policy related to the elections.

The committee formerly known as the Officers & Directors Qualifications & Recommendations Committee (ODQRC) has been changed to the Directors Qualification Committee (DQC). In addition to the name change, the structure of the Committee has also been updated to be more inclusive.

Most notably, the new DQC is now comprised of the following members: a HAAR Past-President, the HAAR President-Elect, the HAAR Vice President, a Member of the HAAR Board of Directors, the ValleyMLS Chair, and two at-large Members of HAAR.

The Members of the DQC are appointed by the HAAR President in consultation with the Leadership Team and confirmed by the HAAR Board of Directors.

This update to HAAR Policy was approved by the HAAR Board of Directors on May 30, 2024. The full change can be seen below.

Additionally, another change to HAAR Policy was approved by the HAAR Board of Directors in 2022 but was never added to HAAR Policy until it was recently brought to our attention.

The following additions to HAAR Policy were approved by the HAAR Board of Directors on November 29, 2022:
  • Single Seat Candidates:
    • A member shall choose only one seat to run for during any single election. For example, a member will not be permitted to be on the ballot for both an Officer and a Director position—they must choose one.
  • Minimum Eligibility Standards:
    • A member applying for an LT position must have served on the BOD for either ValleyMLS or HAAR for at least 1 out of the last 3 years.
    • Any member applying for a BOD seat must have volunteered on a committee/workgroup for at least 1 full year out of the prior 3 years.
    • A member must be in “good standing” with both HAAR and ValleyMLS to be on a committee/workgroup.
  • Petitioning:
    • In the event that a member is not chosen to be on the ballot by the election committee, the member may petition to be added to the ballot. No more than 25% of the required 20% of membership required to make it onto the ballot shall be from any single firm. Petition results will not be allowed to override minimum eligibility standards.
  • Office of President-Elect:
    • In order to run for President-Elect, a member must have one year of officer experience as Treasurer or VP for at least one out of the last 3 years before they are eligible to be on the ballot.
The above changes have been added to the current HAAR Policy Manual as a separate Addendum, which can be viewed at: haar.realtor/docs
