FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The National Association of Realtors® requires REALTORS® to complete their Code of Ethics training each cycle. This cycle runs from January 1, 2019, through December 31, 2021. Your completion must be transmitted to NAR on or before December 29, 2021.
QUICK NOTES:
- COE can be a class taken to receive CE credit hours. However, it is not a required CE course.
- The Alabama Real Estate Commission office (AREC) and the National Association of Realtors® (NAR) are two different entities. AREC requires CE every 2 years and NAR requires COE every 3 years.
- NAR requires you to take COE every three (3) years. Those three (3) years are lumped together to create a cycle. Example: cycle 6
- AREC does not notify NAR of your COE completion.
- I cannot accept a screenshot from AREC or a screenshot of your completion certificate.
FAQs:
Q – If I took COE in 2020 for CE credit, do I have to take it again?
A – No. However, because your credit was submitted to the Alabama Real Estate Commission office for CE, DOES NOT mean your completion status was sent to NAR. If you took a COE course and received CE credit, you will need to contact the school responsible for that course and have them email Abbi Johnson the course outline and a class roaster. NOTE: In order for HAAR to be able to transmit your completion to NAR, HAAR must accept the COE course from that specific school.
Q – I took this class in my office. Why am I receiving this email?
A – You received the Code of Ethics reminder email to inform you that NAR has not been notified of your Code of Ethics (COE) –Cycle 6 training requirement completion. If you took a COE course in your office, someone from your office will need to contact the school responsible for that course and have them email Abbi Johnson the course outline and a class roaster. NOTE: In order for HAAR to be able to transmit your completion to NAR, HAAR must accept the COE course from that specific school.
Q – I took this class with “XYZ” instructor. What do I do from here?
A – You will need to contact the instructor/school Admin and have them email Abbi Johnson a course outline and a class roaster.
PLEASE NOTE: HAAR School Acceptance
Effective January 26, 2021 – To comply with the National Association of REALTORS® policy, Huntsville Area Association of REALTORS® [HAAR] School of Real Estate will only accept Code of Ethics training administered by the National Association of REALTORS®, Alabama Association of REALTORS®, Huntsville Area Association of REALTORS®, or from another REALTOR® organization. Any school of Real Estate that administers the Code of Ethics course to HAAR members will be required to meet the following requirements for credit to be given to the HAAR member:
1) Submit the learning objectives during each cycle of the course being taught to ensure up
to date content from the Code of Ethics requirements by the National Association of
REALTORS®.
2) Submit student rosters to HAAR from Code of Ethics courses taught by your school’s
instructors to verify attendance/completion.
Furthermore, REALTOR® members who hold the C2EX Endorsement from the National Association of REALTORS®, the Code of Ethics Training Requirements shall be considered met by maintaining the endorsement.
