To our ValleyMLS.com Brokers,
Our Leadership Team and staff have been fielding calls related to 3 big topics happening in real estate right now. This email is to provide you with the latest FACTS and UPDATES for you to pass along to your colleagues.
Zillow’s acquisition of ShowingTime: The recent breaking news of the purchase of our showing service vendor “Showingtime” by the Zillow Group has generated many calls and conversations.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: Last week, CEO Josh McFall & Sr. MLS Director Rhonda Ricketts met with Showingtime’s CIO to express concerns and questions voiced by members. In the conversation we were again reassured that your client data, showing data, and showing requests are not accessible by Zillow’s brokerage or agents. Nothing has currently changed about our relationship with Showingtime. While the purchase has been announced, it has not yet been finalized.
WHAT WE’RE DOING FOR YOU: As always, our Technology Committee, Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and staff review our MLS vendor relationships to vet the best technology for our subscribers. We are committed to providing technology solutions that are in the best interests of our ValleyMLS.com subscribers. Please keep the feedback coming as we continue to evaluate your concerns around this situation.
Rental Listing Syndication: In January, Zillow, Trulia, & Hotpads stopped displaying the MLS syndication feed due to a changeover to IDX feed for their brokerage. With this change, Zillow, Trulia, & Hotpads introduced a “pay for posting” rental display model.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: The MLS DID NOT make this change. The feed to their sites is still available, but from what we understand no rental listings will display without a Zillow contract.
WHAT WE’RE DOING FOR YOU: Last year, our partnership with Homesnap & Facebook Marketplace generated more than 80,000 leads for property managers through the MLS at NO ADDITIONAL COST! Furthermore, our new MLS Rental Policy Workgroup is looking at new vendors and tools targeted to help further expand the exposure of rental listings. We are committed to providing technology solutions that are in the best interests of our ValleyMLS.com.
Coming Soon Status: With historically low housing inventory, multiple offers, and site unseen offers becoming our norms, our leadership team and staff have received feedback from several brokers and agents about the coming soon status in our MLS.
WHAT WE’RE DOING FOR YOU: As stated with our technology contracts above, our policy committee, leadership team, board of directors, and staff are reviewing MLS policies to ensure the best solutions for all MLS subscribers so that we can all truly “MAKE THE MARKET WORK.” Please keep the feedback coming about the Coming Soon status, or any of our policies, as we continue to evaluate your concerns around this situation.
